What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a therapeutic form of medicine which uses natural substances in microdoses to stimulate the body's innate natural healing mechanisms. Homeopathic medicines are therapeutically active microdoses of botanical, biological, and mineral substances. They are safe and have been used for over 200 years in over 65 countries. Homeopathic medicines are regulated by Health Canada.
With an estimated 500 million people being treated by Homeopathy, the World Health Organization, (WHO), ranks Homeopathic Medicine as the second most widely used form of medicine in the world.
Homeopathic Medicines can be used to treat any acute or chronic condition such as allergies, colds, bacterial infections, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, or anxiety, to name just a few.
Key Concepts in Homeopathy
Homeopathic Medicine seeks to stimulate the body's defense mechanisms and processes so as to prevent and treat illnesses. It is a curative system of medicine in which the patient's constitution is restored to a state of ongoing vigour, health and balance by using and enhancing the body's own healing, defensive and recuperative powers.
Homeopathic treatment involves giving very small doses of substances that would produce similar symptoms of illness in healthy people if they were given in large doses.
Homeopathic treatment is individualized. Homeopathic Medicines are selected according to the whole picture of the patient; not only the symptoms of the illness but also the lifestyle, emotional and mental states, and other factors.
Homeopathic Philosophy
Homeopathy is a system of therapeutics based on a natural scientific law, the "Law of Similars," a law as fundamental and unchanging as the laws of gravity and motion. This Law of Similars, is expressed by the Latin maxim, "Similia Similibus Curentur" – "Let likes be cured by likes" meaning that a substance able to cause symptoms in a person who is well, is able to cure those same symptoms in a person who is sick.
The Art and Science of Homeopathy
Homeopathy offers a holistic approach to disease treatment and is today one of the most universal and widely used forms of alternative medicine. The aim of homeopathy is to encourage the body's own natural system of healing. Homeopathy is an individualised treatment tailored to each person's unique experience of symptoms.
Homeopathic medicines are derived from a variety of herbs, minerals, and other natural substances and are put through a specific pharmacological process of serial dilutions with intermittent agitation between dilutions. Through this process, information from the original substance is imparted to the dilution and the subsequent medicine is extremely small in dose, yet extremely powerful in its therapeutic effect.
A homeopathic physician may be defined as one who adds to her knowledge of the basic medical sciences and diagnosis, a special knowledge of homeopathic therapeutics and in cases suited to such therapy, observes the Law of Similars in selecting the required medication. Your doctor will consider your family history, personal health history, and personal traits in order to understand the unique pattern of symptoms and susceptibilities that present with each individual case. Because everyone's experience is unique, a homeopathic medicine is chosen according to the whole symptom picture rather than only according to a specific diagnosis.
For over 200 years, millions of physicians and hundreds of millions of homeopathic patients have observed and experienced the power and effectiveness of homeopathic medicines.
