FAQ

What can I expect when I visit my Naturopathic Doctor?

The Naturopathic Doctors at Nature Doctors offer a holistic approach to well-being where they adequately asses physical, emotional and mental health. Each appointment will include an in-depth look at how you are progressing and will allow time for you to speak to your doctor about any concerns you may have. The ND will collect a patient history, may perform a relevant physical exam and may offer laboratory tests so that they are able to create an individualized treatment plan. Please bring any recent lab work you have to your first appointment if you are able.

What range of conditions does a Naturopathic Doctor treat?

Naturopathic Doctors treat a broad range of concerns and most conditions. Common concerns include IBS, hormonal imbalances, immune system dysfunction, food sensitivities, PMS and painful periods, fertility, allergies, pre-natal care, chronic pain, frequent infections and cancer. An ND is trained to treat conditions from an integrated perspective that focuses on natural processes.

How is a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) Trained?

Naturopathic medical schools are four-year post-graduate degree programs recognized by the department of health as accredited institutions that grant the doctoral degree of Naturopathic Medicine. A naturopathic doctor takes the same basic medical sciences as an MD, the difference being they specialize in natural medicine. Some of the modalities an ND uses are vitamins, supplements, homeopathic medicine, acupuncture, bowen therapy, nutrition, lifestyle counselling. Naturopathic doctors have access to regular lab work as well as specialty test ie. Allergy tests, hormone panels etc.

Will my insurance cover your services?

Most private insurance companies provide some coverage for naturopathic care. You will need to look into your specific plan for details. We will provide you with a detailed invoice that has your doctor's licensing information on it; it is your responsibility to submit the invoice to your insurance company. It is important to note that your coverage may not be enough to cover all of the appointments you will need to reach your fullest health goals.

What if I need to get a hold of my doctor in between appointments?

If you have a simple, clarification question, you can email your doctor at info@thenaturedoctors.ca. However, they will only get back to you through email if you are looking for a yes/no answer. If you need to speak with them about anything more involved, please call our front desk to book a phone consult. Usually phone consults are 15 minutes and will cost $39.38 (including tax). If your matter is urgent and we are unable to schedule you with your Doctor, there are several other practitioners who are available and we will do our best to book you in with someone the same day you call.

What can I do if I am having a hard time with the diet my doctor has prescribed for me?

You are welcome to let your doctor know that you are having a difficult time changing your diet. We know it can be an overwhelming undertaking at times. Your doctor and/or our front desk can give you recommendations and point out some resources.

Can I pick up refills of my products my doctor prescribed me?

Yes. Please bring in your treatment note and we will be glad to re-fill a prescription. If a number of months have passed since the last time you saw your doctor, and you decide you would like to re-start taking a product you were prescribed, we may require you to have a follow-up with your doctor before selling you more products.

How do I go about booking in follow-up appointments?

You are welcome to call our office any time to book appointments. It is best for us to re-book you at the end of each appointment if possible. Also, we do require two full business days to change or cancel an appointment. Cancelling or changing an appointment within two business days will result in being invoiced for the full cost of the appointment.
